Truth Is Stranger #41: Bible Study in Hooters

Sigh. We buy the hot wings, you read the Bible with us: Church Attempts Bible Study in Hooters Restaurant.

The funniest part of this Beliefnet story is in the comments section: many people riffing on "Maybe they'll be inspired to read the Song of Songs to the waitresses!" (and you can imagine where that goes....)

This may be brilliant, but I'm inclined to think it is a big, whopping mistake.

One ought to study in an area without distractions.

I've read about Hooters . . . well, OK, I have walked by the one out at the Mall of America . . . all right, all right, I admit I've been in that one twice. A long time ago. In an afternoon, before the night shift came on duty.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Women on the street and certainly in our parks and probably on our campuses wear far less than the shorts and t-shirts seen in Hooters.

Theology on Tap is pretty hot stuff for young Catholics these days and those are generally held in trendy bars. I would imagine some customers encountered there on the way to wash ones hands might be enticingly dressed.

I can just imagine the parts of Songs of Songs they might be reading. lol.

It's stories like these that make April Fool's Day stories seem like an exercise in futility. As they say, "you can't make this stuff up"!

I'm with Tim - had to check the date for myself, or does that just make me a doubter?

A Baptist preacher out my way used to hold prayer meetings in a bar, on the pinciple that one needed to go where the sinners needed saving --but nobody to my knowledge has tried it at Hooters yet!

Tonight, we will be having an anatomy--er, animated--discussion on the following
Job 31:1 "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl."
Proverbs 5:19b "...may her breasts satisfy you always..."

Jesus went out and met the sinners where they were, he didn't expect the sinner to come to him.

I suppose they are working on the same theory.
