Worst/Best Batch of Crummy Church Signs Ever

As blogger Joel notes, it's a mixed victory, since he had hoped his blog would do something to stamp out the bane of horrific untheological church signs. They just seem to be encouraged by it all. Sigh.

But here they are.

(A small taste from that link:

Real church sign: "Forgive us our trashbaskets, as we forgive those who put trash in our basket."

Joel: "...and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the desire to take a machete, lighter fluid, and a torch to this sign. For thine is the kingdom....

NOTE: Crummy Church Signs does not in any way endorse the machete-ing or burning of any church signs, no matter how crummy they may appear. Please note that it took the place of "evil" in the original Lord's Prayer. All rights reserved, offer void in Quebec.")

You know, I think I've seen that "forgive us our trashbaskets" verse in a list of funny kid misinterpretations of religious text.

But I've got to side with Joel, though I don't feel nearly as incendiary: absent the kid-ese context, it's just a lame joke attempt.

Yes, they are pretty dumb, but (speaking as a Protestant) what is the harm in them? The Trashbasket one is silly, but has its own sense. "Unsafe Sects" is downright respectable if you think about it. All these do is prove God has a sense of humor, He has to.
