The Immaculate Conception Meme

Happy Feast Day! Ave Maria!

And no, this is not "a meme conceived without sin." In the eyes of many, they are all born in sin. But sullied or no, here it is...a random facts meme from Paul at Alive and Young.

Rules: Each tagged person must post 8 random facts or habits about themselves on their blog. At the end of the post, choose 8 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment telling them that they are tagged and to read your blog. Have fun!
  1. My back really, really, really hurts from snow shoveling days ago. Vitamin I makes it bearable. Geez, I'm getting old.
  2. People think I am growing my hair out, but actually, I haven't had time to get a haircut since August.
  3. I'm not giving up chocolate for advent this year, and I'm feeling a little guilty about that.
  4. I'm a member of a Catholic Worker community.
  5. I'm kind of addicted to For Better Or For Worse, and am not handling the transition to "old comics plus new comics" very well.
  6. Creamy wild rice soup in winter is the nectar of the gods.
  7. I'm a closet charismatic. Except I just said that. Then again, this is an anonymous blog.
  8. Speaking of that...my graduate students found me out (that I compose this blog). Scarier part: "The Ironic Catholic has got to be you; it just sounds like you." Really? I had hoped I was a lot more thoughtful, inspiring, and literate in class. (***deep sigh***) Well...hi out there, students of mine. How are you anyway? How is that thesis research going?
I tag: Stella Borealis, Adoro Te Devote, Casting in the Deep, Transcendental Musings, It Came from Allen's Brain, Chased by Children, Korrektiv, and Laura the Crazy Mama.

Oooooooooh, don't you know I.C. that guys don't like to reveal stuff about themselves? At least this guy doesn't.

First to take away the suspence, I wasn't immaculately conceived nor have I lived my life that way.

Hmm I would be seriously worried about the students! Hope it doesn't cramp your style.
Cheers

This is my calling card or link"Whittereronautism"until blogger comments get themselves sorted out.

Sheesh, it's been a while since I "memed" but I'll give it a shot!

I wish you were my teacher IC. ^__^

OK, I played. :-)

I'm going to sleep now.

Whaddaya mean? You're thoughtful, inspiring, and literate here (albeit in a completely satirical way)!

Ray--buck up, man. You can do it.
maddy--I worry about my students all the time!
Laura--you did fine! ;)
PDM--aw, thanks.
Adoro--I didn't laugh at the actress line. And thanks for keeping my deep identity secret.
Theocoid--once again, aw, thanks.

Wow... I feel so popular. *flash back to dodge ball teams of grade school* I did my meme in the usual over-achiever sort of way. You have sentences and I have paragraphs. Something needs to get out of the convent for a while. *ahem*

"something" really is "someone", namely me, who also needs sleep!

Meme completed.

I wasn't aware we had to give stuff up for Advent, who made up that rule?

The Ironic Catholic said...

Angelmeg-- no one. It's not part of church law. But the season does have a penitential feel to it traditionally. I chose to give up chocolate last year.

Adoro te Devote said...

I give up stuff for Advent, too. I treat it like a "mini-lent" which it is.

And IC, I told you I'd never tell, and unless you reveal your own identity for the world to know, it's not my secret to share.

:-)

I believe, youngsters, that in the olden days, Advent was much more penitential than it now is under the "Spirit of Vatican II."

That's why the third Sunday, "Gaudete Sunday"(?), or is it "Laetare Sunday?" is "pink", minor joy and celebration in the midst of the long penitential period.

I'm about ready to push "send" on my meme contribution which actually was done last night. I'm very anal about spelling and grammar.

How the heck do you be a closet charismatic? And what's a Catholic Worker community?

Adoro te Devote said...

Ray, don't get all anti-Vatican II now! :-) But rage agains the false spirit, definitely!

The penitential aspect of Advent was never supposed to be lost.

And it is Gaudete Sunday. Laetare Sunday is in Lent. And I think Gaudete Sunday comes too soon...Advent should be longer.

Diesel--a closet charismatic waves her hands in the air and hits hangers and mothballs.

Seriously, it means I sometimes pray in tongues and have been physically healed of a serious illness through prayer. But I tend to be quiet about it, just because...how do you slip THAT in conversation? There are few charismatic Catholic communities where I live, and I'm not entirely comfortable with them. Those gifts are part of the whole package of Christianity for me, anyway; not the main dish.

Catholic Worker communities are small faith communities begun by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin during the Great Depression. They're usually groups of laypeople who work with the homeless and the working poor, offering hospitality through food, shelter, and friendship. They also tend to have a pacifist streak. I'm not a live-in volunteer at a house of hospitality, but a member of the core community in one (that's the group responsible for helping keep the houses open and running, contributing through volunteering and participating in community prayer life). More at www.catholicworker.org .

Adoro and Ray--right on about Advent!

But what about those nifty Chocolate filled Advent Calendars? Kind of defeats the purpose.

Oh well, I am off to the advent penance service at Church to, get clean before the company gets here. (as my son calls it).

I thought maybe Vitamin I stood for Irony, but according to Wikipedia it is athlete's slang for Ibuprofen.

I'm tempted to just steel your eight and post them at K'tiv as my own. Would that be cheating?
