Bonaventure and Thomas Aquinas

One of Bonaventure’s famous friends was St. Thomas Aquinas. Thomas asked him one day where he got all the beautiful things he wrote. St. Bonaventure took his friend by the hand and led him to his desk. Pointing to the large crucifix which always stood on the desk, he said, “Look! It is He Who tells me everything. He is my only Teacher.” (Source)

You've got to love a saint who tells Thomas Aquinas like it is.

Happy Feast Day of St. Bonaventure, Doctor of the Church.

And then Aquinas, seeing Bonaventure's left over fries, said, "Are you going to eat that?"

You also got to love St. Bonaventure for his humility. Both he and St. Thomas Aquinas were requested to write the Mass for the new feast of Corpus Christi. After Bonaventure read Thomas' version he tore his own up.

Though I do have one minor grudge against St. Bonadventure he had intended to vote against allowing the new mendicant orders such as the Carmelite to be accepted by teh Church. He died though on his way before making that vote which was a near thing.
