Oh No! Scruffy Priests Are Running Amuk!

From an article, "The Pope Urges Priests To Wear Smarter Outfits" in the Times Online (UK):

Another outfitters for clergy, Mastranzo, said ''Around 30 per cent of priests dress in a scruffy manner and don't even pay attention to the colour of their clothes.'

Alas.  Alack.  Commence wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Scruffy, I tell you.  My dog Fido is scruffy.  I never met a scruffy priest.  Yet I'm not sure I want our priests dressing for fashion, either.

Of course, this commentary comes from an woman university academic--the only job in the world where dressing dowdy could be a smart professional move.

When I saw that, the only thing I could think of was the immortal line from Han Solo: "Who's scruffy-looking?"

If the UK Times printed that message quoting the Holy Father, then I think it's safe to say our US priests look just great. I've never seen a "scruffy" one here.
An added thought...if they start looking too "smart" they might see a reduction in the collection basket.

St Francis need not apply.

Love priests and love that they still wear clearly identified clothing unlike a lot of other religious who seem to have lost their way. But trying to stay fashonable seems to take the point a little far. However, a good thing about most priests is that they have a good sense of humor and so the article will bring smiles. Forwarded to a number of priest friends.

priests are not supposed to be fashion-savvy. who would want to go to a church where the priest dresses in dolce & gabbana? i am an orthodox christian, and our priests are required to wear long, shapeless, black cassocks over their clothes. you cant tell what they're wearing underneath. also, priests that are unmarried (although some married ones do this as well-priests can be married in the orthodx church) typically grow long beards, and sometimes long hair. you wanna talk scruffy? you should see the bishops and abbots of the orthodox church!

i just thought i'd on this comic matter :)
