Amusement on my theology exams

As I grade until my eyes bleed, these are the multiple choice gems one of my gen-ed courses got to ponder yesterday:
  1. Teresa of Avila's The Interior Castle holds that all human beings are called to... A. a long and healthy life B. the "seventh mansion" of union with God C. be a nun or priest D. awesome gothic architecture
  2. The "universal call to holiness" from Lumen Gentium holds that ... A. God calls a handful of people to be saints B. God calls all people, everywhere, to union with God C. the universe is holy D. phone calls from the Almighty are never collect
  3. "The state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed" is called ... A. heaven B. hell C. purgatory D. classtime with Dr IC

Strange. No one laughed.

The scary thing about wildly wrong alternate choices is that someone may actually choose them. It's much more difficult to be charitable then as you know they don't have a clue.

What, no "All of the above"?

Well, *I* laughed. Great stuff, Dr. IC.

Whenever I get a test like that it's actually hard for me to answer correctly. There have been a few times when I just gave in and chose the "wrong" answer, usually when I knew I had aced the test anyway (or conversely, knew there was no way I'd pass and might as well give up).

What class is this? Sounds like my Spirituality final in the seminary. I always love the crazy answers and I always laugh.

For 3 I imagine I would have chosen D just to be perverse. I am not sure what that says about my personality and my theology....

If nothing else, you had a good time writing the questions. Or so I hope.

Oops! My Bernard of Clairvaux was meant for your post about the deposit your child made on your suit. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa
