A Colbert Classic: The King of Glory

My favorite Colbert video, and a (formerly? please God? we'll find out tomorrow...) popular Palm Sunday entrance song.

Hilarious and oh so accurate!
Thanks for sharing!

I had to pause to stop chuckling here. If ever there were a justification for apostasy, that would be it

If that happened at my parish, I'd be crawling, if I had to, to get over to St Agnes.

I try to avoid videos, but that one is a keeper.

Great. Now this is the image that will go through my head tomorrow morning as we process into church.

Thanks. Thanks a lot.

I think its funny that even he can barely keep a straight face.

You mean he wasn't being serious? The "choir" at our parish has such serious faces when they sing this!!!! Lord, help us!

That was hilarious. I have GOT to start watching the Colbert Report.

Let me guess. This was taken at a Mass at the Mahony's Religious Education Congress.

That's awesome... and beats the heck out of the one we're singing tomorrow.

A bell rang as I read the name of this post and my heart leapt into my chest for a moment. I was able to breathe regularly again once I checked the schedule (one advantage of being in the choir) and confirmed that we will be singing "All Glory, Laud, and Honor." Thank God!

I didn't get that song at Mass this morning!

Am I the only one who thinks it's not really funny to insult a song that, for all you know, other people genuinely find appropriate and meaningful?

Actually, Anna, I don't hate the song so much. I think it can be OK. But I think people have gone overboard with the crazy dancing and finger cymbals accompaniment, etc. Colbert's doing an affectionate send-up of the over-exuberance, I think....

I love Colbert... he always makes me laugh :-)

My husband insisted on showing this to me right before we left for Mass yesterday morning and I wish he'd waited; I anxiously searched the OCP songbook for the posted songs and was relieved to find we weren't singing this one. (Though we have.) Nothing against the song, but if I heard it sung in the dirgelike monotone my fellow parishioners seem to prefer I would have had a snort-laugh situation on my hands. This would not have gone over well with the grim folk my DH performs his eucharistic ministerial duties with.

I showed this video to our music director a few weeks ago. He promptly scrapped "King of Glory" as the entrance hymn, which is good, because is sounds like a dirge when our parish sings it.
